The End of October!

I can’t believe it! When I opened my agenda this past Monday and realized that by the end of the week we would be leaving October behind I must admit I was a bit doubt-founded. What happened to October and September for that matter. Time definitely doesn’t stand still (speaking of time don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour this weekend!).

With the end of October in view I am forced to think once again about Halloween. I must admit I don’t look forward to October 31st…in fact I’m very happy when it’s over (one reason is because that means we are one day closer to Christmas ). This week I came across an interesting article in Faith Today that provides a variety of approaches that Christian folks take when dealing with Halloween.

When all is said and done each family has to make there own decision and regardless of what you decide I believe it is good to think it through. The article at the link above will provide you with a few different perspectives that will be thought provoking.

Of course one thing our youth have done in recent years on October 31st is a food drive. This is a great way to spend the evening (young and old alike) and I trust that when they come knocking you’ll be ready with a bag of things for the food bank. (And if you are looking for something to do this Saturday evening why not join them!)

Did you know that October 4-10 is Mental Illness Awareness week? I had the opportunity to attend a one day seminar this past Saturday and was touched by Sharon Fawcett’s powerful Keynote Address. I would encourage you to check out some of her story on her website www.sharonfawcett.com (go to the writing page).

I have also had an opportunity to become more aware through the Rapha Initiative of our Baptist Convention. Feel free to check out there website at www.baptist-atlantic.ca/departments/witness/rapha

Here are a couple of other websites that can provide helpful information as well, www.miaw.ca and http://www.cmha.ca/bins/index.asp.

Seems like the perfect time to take a few extra minutes, make a few extra clicks with the mouse and learn a little more about Mental Illness.
