It’s Not Easy Being Green
Kermit the Frog was right, it’s not easy being green. I’m not talking about the color of anyones skin of course, I’m talking about reusing and recycling. I wanted to follow up on our topic from this past Sunday-Caring for Creation- by reflecting honestly about a practical area of application.
I was helped with this by the blue and grey boxes that were at the end of driveways all over the neighbor this week, it was that time of month again. Somebody asked me where mine was…(not at the end of the driveway). My problem is I can never remember what Tuesday it is…so the pile just keeps getting bigger in the garage! My other problem is sometimes I need some encouragement when it comes to recycling…
Consider this for encouragement…when we lived in the other Valley (Annapolis Valley, NS) we had to divide our “waste” four different ways. At the end of your driveway there would be the clear bags for paper products, clear bags for plastics, etc…, the garbage bags (only four every two weeks) and your compost card! There were actually people who would come around and inspect your waste, if it wasn’t sorted right-it got a big rejection sticker! We called them the garbage police (we only got rejected once that I can remember).
When we moved down to NS I must admit it was touch to get use to but by the time we left, 3 years later, it was just an everyday part of life. But it’s funny how habits can be learned and lost! Why is that?
