How do you see our society’s growing dependence on technology (specifically the Internet)? Is the fact that we Canadians spend an average of 43.5 hours on the web a month (The Globe and Mail) a good thing or a bad thing? I guess it all depends…on what one is doing!

The Internet opens up the world to us but this world is full of both danger and opportunity. My faith requires that I stay away from the dark side and live in the light. That can be a challenge online but many believe it is worth the risk and have embraced the opportunity.

Below I have listed a couple of websites that have challenged and stretch my thinking in this regard. They provided me with some interesting ideas about how I can take advantage of the Internet to share my faith and help other who are searching.

What would Jesus Tweet? Technology through the eyes of faith

Here are some resources that may help as you (and your children) seek to navigate the internet and approach technology through the eyes of faith. Please note that while I have found many of these resources helpful, the fact that I am listing these resources is not a full endorsement (my me or this church) of all the opinions or ideas ever expressed by the authors (how’s that for a disclaimer). I believe we need to be informed (I trust these resources will help with that) and we need to be intentional when it comes to technology. We must be intentionally allowing the Spirit to guide our use of technology!

Do you remember what you were doing 15 years ago? May 18, 1996 may not stand out in history for many but it sure does for me! It was the day I said “I do” and married the love of my life, Patricia. My love, respect and admiration for Patricia has only grown over these last 15 years. This is reflected in a phrase that I from time to time say to Patricia, “I love you…more than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow!”

I have found marriage to be such a blessing and one of the most precious gifts God has given to me (for clarification it is a close second, behind salvation/forgiveness). That being said marriage is not always easy. All relationships take work and marriage more work than others. To grow old together is to grow together and growth can be painful at times.  Patricia has seen me at my best and at my worst, yet her love is consistent. I am a blessed man and a living example of Proverbs 18:22.

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22)
