2012 Thanksgiving Letter

posted 2 Oct 2012, 08:40 by Peter Moore
In case you didn't get a copy (or it didn't make it home), here's my Thanksgiving letter:

How do I even begin to say thank you to a God who has done so much for me? This is the question I find myself pondering as I sit to write this year’s version of “The Pastor’s Thanksgiving Letter.”

If you are keeping count at home, this is the 8th edition of my Thanksgiving Letter (surely someone has them all scrapbooked). I will be the first to admit that the theme of the previous seven letters hasn’t changed much. It is a THANKSGIVING letter, after all, how original can one get. That being said as I sit down to write this year’s version, something feels different. Of course there have been many things to give thanks for over the years but as I think back over the last year and “remember the wonders God has done”, I am overwhelmed.

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done…Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced… (1 Chronicles 16:8, 11-12)

The Bible tells us that if we are thankful we are to “make know among the nations what he has done.” You all know what He has done for my family. I am thankful for this miracle and I am thankful that when we looked to the LORD for strength He provided. I am thankful that as a church we have been united by this difficult experience and driven to our knees in prayer.

I am also overflowing with gratitude for the way God provided and lead a group from our congregation to Cameroon. I believe that the Short Term Mission trip to Cameroon was not only a defining moment for those who went but for our church as a whole. The presence of the team in the village of Bambalang and the financial support we raised as a church for this village will have a lasting impact. It also confirms once again that we here at DBC are kingdom building, mission minded people. Let us continue to proclaim His name and join in His work, around our neighbourhoods and around the world!

God deserves much praise for what he has done and is doing in our midst. Earlier this year we realized that God was up to something here at DBC and we had better make room-literally. Once again this fall it has become obvious that there are many who want to attend worship on Sunday mornings and space can at times be an issue. What a wonderful issue to have and praise the LORD we believe that there is a solution!

A plan is in place to renovate the existing room above the sanctuary and turn it into a balcony (at this point it is really a room with glass that looks out into the sanctuary). This will allow us to gain 50 seats for worship! I am thankful that leadership from all our boards and committees has gotten behind this vision, even reworking their individual budgets so money can be redirected to this need. This is a wonderful example of teamwork among our boards and committees- Praise God. The last hurdle we must cross is having enough money on hand to take care of this need and make our vision a reality! Please prayerfully consider how you might be able to join with us to financial support the overall ministry of the church and beyond that the balcony project. You can do both by taking part in our Thanksgiving offering.

As I sign off on this Thanksgiving Letter I am still left with that burning question, How do I even begin to say thank you to a God who has done so much? This year I have been humbled by God’s grace and overwhelmed by the love He has shown me through each one of you!

I offer up to God my Praise and to each of you, my thanks.
