Dear Friends,
Two weeks ago today I witnessed a miracle. There is no other way to describe what happened. In fact, I have heard my daughter’s survival described this way by others who were in the room and caring for her on March 12, 2012. My daughter is a living, breathing miracle- Praise God.
Today one of the doctors who was involved in the miracle said that in the run of a year at the IWK they are involved in two maybe three saves-children that are so critical that death is imminent but something amazing happens…life returns.
I know it is difficult to believe just how sick Leah was and how it all happened so quickly. One Sunday she was running up and down the hill behind our house sliding, the next Sunday she was being flown to the IWK by air ambulance in critical condition. We couldn’t understand it and really still don’t. We did what any good parents would do, on day three of her “ flu-like illness” we took her to the clinic but a day and a half later we ended up at the emergency where things went from bad to worse. Within hours she was on her way to Halifax.
It is unbelievable. Pneumonia, fluid around her lungs, and kidney failure. The infection was through her entire body via her blood stream and the fight (for her life) was on. We were there for it all…it was and still is indescribable, a nightmare.
But that was then and this is now. In between then and now we have experienced a miracle, accompanied by many other small but significant blessings along the way. I am so grateful to God for allowing his kingdom to come and a miracle to be done in the life of my little girl. He used so many to bring about this miracle. Some were on the front lines using their knowledge to provide the very best medical care. Others were on their knees, calling out to God with us and asking Him to provide all that was necessary for life. When things looked hopeless, it was the prayers of God’s people that brought hope and life.
Reflecting on the many tricky and downright dangerous medical procedures that Leah endured on March 12, 2012 one of the medical professionals commented, “Her father is a minister that had to be count for something.” My friends the prayers of God’s people, your prayers, counted for something. Never doubt that the prayers of God’s people are powerful and effective!
I look forward to the day when my family of seven is reunited. I look forward to the day when my family can once again worship with our church family in Douglas. I look forward to the day when we all can celebrate what God has done, not only in Leah’s life, but in the lives of so many others during this time. Until then let us press on and pray on, knowing that he who has begun a good work will carry it on to completion. The journey through this desert continues but let us not forget that God has a habit of doing the miraculous in the desert…
